A 17-year-old is dead and two teens are in custody after a police chase and shooting Monday in south Cobb County, the GBI said.

About 11:20 p.m., Cobb police saw a vehicle reported stolen out of Atlanta and tried to stop it on Riverside Parkway near Austell, agency spokeswoman Natalie Ammons said Tuesday in a statement. Three people were inside the car. The driver kept going, setting off the chase, according to the GBI.

The vehicle hit a dead end in the 200 block of Riverside Parkway.

“When the vehicle stopped, two of the males ran and were pursued by officers,” Ammons said. “During the incident, one of the males brandished a handgun and was shot by one CCPD officer.”

Officers gave the suspect, identified as 17-year-old Vincent Demario Truitt of Atlanta, aid before he was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. He died later Tuesday.

The Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office will perform Truitt’s autopsy on Wednesday, Ammons said.

Cobb police arrested the remaining two suspects. A 17-year-old was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant and a 15-year-old was booked on charges related to the stolen vehicle. Their names were not released.

No officers were injured in the incident.

The is the 54th time the GBI has been asked to investigate an officer-involved shooting this year, spokeswoman Nelly Miles said.

The police shooting in Cobb is the third such incident in the state since Sunday morning and the second in metro Atlanta.

Police fatally shot Marcos Reyes, 28, of Forest Park, on Sunday after authorities said he fired a rifle at officers in Chamblee.

Hours later, Rodney Morrison, 47, of Leesburg, was shot and killed after threatening deputies with a knife, according to the GBI. Lee County sheriff’s deputies were trying to serve him court-mandated paperwork.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution also tracks officer-involved shootings that don't involve the GBI, and those numbers sometimes differ from the GBI's tally.
