A Braselton man was arrested on a murder charge Friday after allegedly shooting an acquaintance and then calling the cops on himself.

Deputies responded to a home on Ga. 53 just before 5 p.m. after receiving a call from a 62-year-old who said he shot someone during an argument, Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum said.

The caller, identified as Allen Bredig, said 52-year-old William Halbman came to his home and the two began fighting, authorities said.

It’s unclear what the men argued about, but the confrontation turned deadly when Bredig pulled out a gun, the sheriff said.

Halbman was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, but did not survive his injuries. Bredig was booked into the Jackson County jail on charges of murder and aggravated assault, records show.

The GBI was called in to assist deputies in their investigation.
