Canton police say they have arrested a local man after his former girlfriend said he kicked in her door and threatened her.

About 4 a.m. Saturday, police received a 911 call about the incident in the 300 block of Lakeview Drive, police spokesman Pacer Cordy said. The caller, who was at home with her child, reported the home invasion and threat with a knife.

Officers found damage to the woman’s home and car, Cordy said.

Police arrested Christopher Simmons, 25, the victim’s former boyfriend, after finding him behind a building in the area, Cordy said.

Charges are home invasion, aggravated assault, criminal trespass, cruelty to children and possession of marijuana, police said.

“Our alert officers worked quickly to arrest the suspect in this dangerous incident before any further harm was done to the family or citizens who live in the area,” Police Chief Mark J. Mitchell said.
