A 13-year-old boy was shot in the abdomen in southwest Atlanta, allegedly by a 39-year-old man, police said.

About 11:30 p.m. Saturday,  officers responded to the 3000 block of Landrum Drive, police spokesman Jarius Daugherty said.

Police learned the victim had already been taken to the hospital by family members. Witnesses said the gunman, identified as Ryan Johnson, lived in the apartment complex and said the shooting may have been the result of an altercation that the man and the teen had earlier that day

Officers took Johnson into custody outside his apartment. He is facing aggravated assault and other charges.

The teen was listed in stable condition. The investigation continues.
