A 4-year-old boy died after he was pulled from a pond near his home in Rockdale County, authorities said.

A police dog and his handler spotted the child’s body Saturday night in water near where he was last seen, Rockdale County fire spokesman Jacade Long said.

The boy was identified as Legend Benton, sheriff’s spokeswoman Yolande Lovingood-Moore said Sunday.

Crews responded to the 3000 block of Flat Stone Court in Conyers, Lovingood-Moore said.

The child was pulled from the water by sheriff’s deputies, who immediately began CPR, Long said. The boy was taken to a hospital by ambulance but did not survive.

The boy lived in a house near the pond where he was found, Long said.

Conyers police helped in the search, including using a drone.
