Two Tennessee-based bail bondsmen walked out of the Gwinnett County jail nearly two years after they were charged with kidnapping a woman and terrorizing her seven children.
A jury found Kevin Roberson and Khalil Abdullah not guilty on all charges related to the 2014 incident, Channel 2 Action News reported Monday.
The two bondsmen broke into Tiffany Hayes’ Castlebrooke Way home looking for her husband, who was accused of not showing up for traffic court. When they couldn’t find him, police said the bondsmen held the family hostage. One of the children took cellphone video of the men making threats.
“I told you to go into your room and stay out of the way, or you’ll get shot,” one of the bondsmen said.
Roberson told Channel 2 on Monday that the police were wrong to arrest him and his partner.
“They treated me wrong, they disrespected me, put the handcuffs on me,” Roberson told the station. “And they threw me in jail and I think that’s kind of wrong.”
Police told Channel 2 that Roberson and Abdullah were legally obligated to notify Gwinnett police before pursuing the warrant in Georgia.
