A teenager who is accused of driving the getaway car in the shooting death of a Gwinnett County police officer last month will remain in jail.
Isaiah Pretlow, 19, of Snellville, was with Tafahree Maynard when Officer Antwan Toney was called to investigate a “suspicious vehicle” near Shiloh Middle School in unincorporated Snellville, according to police.
Toney was shot while approaching the car, officials said, and was later pronounced dead at Gwinnett Medical Center.
A judge Friday said there was enough evidence to keep Pretlow, charged with aggravated assault, in jail, Channel 2 Action News reported.
His mother, however, said her son is not guilty.
“I’m just a little scared for him,” Tammie Pretlow said at the hearing.
In the manhunt that followed the shooting, police say Pretlow pointed a gun at an officer. An officer then fired five shots, none of which hit Pretlow.
His mother said her son was scared when Maynard, his friend, opened fire from inside the car.

“He’s just innocent,” she said. “He didn’t do none of the things that they have said that’s he’s done. I believe that from my heart.”
A detective who testified Friday said police dogs eventually tracked down Pretlow, and that he admitted to driving the getaway car, crashing it and hiding in a house. But he never admitted to pointing a gun at an officer.
No footage exists showing Pretlow pointing a gun at an officer, according to Channel 2. The officer’s body camera became dislodged.
His mother remains supportive.
“I just want him to come home,” she said.
