Authorities identified the man found near a Newnan post office last week as a 19-year-old who was reported missing by his family in January.

The GBI used DNA testing to identify the body as Jacorey Harris, but police do not know how Harris died or how long he was dead before he was discovered March 13 along Postal Parkway.

City officials said Harris was reported missing by his family Jan. 21 after leaving home about 10:15 a.m. and never returning. He is believed to have been spotted that evening at an area restaurant, but he wasn’t seen again until his body was discovered last Wednesday.

Testing is underway to determine the cause of death and when Harris died, the city of Newnan said Wednesday in a news release.

Police are asking anyone with information about the case or anyone who may have seen Harris in the seven weeks before his body was discovered to contact Newnan Detective Dawn Howard at 770-253-2355, ext. 127.
