Gwinnett County firefighters responding to a Duluth-area apartment fire made a grisly discovery Tuesday afternoon — a dead body.
Shortly before 3:30 p.m., crews were on the scene of a fire at The Falls at Gwinnett Place apartments, located near the intersection of Steve Reynolds and Satellite boulevards.
The blaze was contained to the same apartment where the body was found, but the family living in the apartment below were displaced by water damage and are being assisted by the Red Cross, fire officials said.
Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said later foul play is not suspected at this point in the investigation, but the cause of the fire has not yet been released.
“An adult female and a child who reside in the apartment were not home at the time,” Rutledge said. “The deceased is also an occupant of the apartment and is an adult male in his 20s.”
The medical examiner has the body and will determine the exact cause of death, Rutledge said.
