A man wanted on battery charges in a domestic incident was found dead in a ravine near a Gainesville home Tuesday, the Hall County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

Leonardo Jimenez was found in the 4000 block of Stephens Road with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, Hall County sheriff’s Lt. Scott Ware said.

Deputies went to the home about 3:45 p.m. to serve Jimenez with a warrant, Ware said. Authorities said Jimenez allegedly assaulted a woman, who he lived with, at the home earlier in the week. She suffered scratches and bruises to her chest.

Jimenez, 55, was located outside the home holding a handgun and ran from deputies into an “overgrown area behind the home,” Ware said.

Deputies heard gunshots, but Ware said they did not fire their weapons.

Authorities then surrounded the home and shut down Stephens Road, but the Hall County SWAT team eventually found Jimenez dead in the ravine.

No other details were released.
