A Douglasville man was arrested Tuesday after a 3-year-old boy he was supposed to be watching left his Marietta apartment and got struck by a car inside the complex, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The child was not injured, but neighbors and police spent hours trying to figure out where he came from and who was supposed to be watching him.

Cobb police officers went door to door in the Caswyck Trail apartment complex and even used a bullhorn trying to find the child’s parents, according to Channel 2.

Authorities said Devin Newsome, 21, was supposed to be watching the little boy and his two siblings when the 3-year-old wandered away from home and got hit in the parking lot.

The driver of the vehicle tried to find out where the child lived, but called police after about an hour of searching.

“The little boy was out here probably three-and-a-half, four hours without nobody,” one neighbor told the news station.

Newsome, who was charged with one misdemeanor count of reckless conduct, turned himself into the Cobb County jail on Tuesday morning, records show. He was released less than two hours later after posting a $1,320 bond.
