Authorities are searching for a suspect believed to have set more than a dozen small fires in DeKalb County on Friday morning.

DeKalb fire Capt. Dion Bentley said the suspect has been lighting small piles of trash and brush on fire.

“It does appear that we have a firestarter in the Glenwood Road area,” Bentley said. “There have been more than a dozen fires, but most of them are very small.”

One of the blazes spread quickly, however, and required two trucks to extinguish, Bentley said.

Authorities do not believe there’s any connection between the suspected arsonist and the two large fires that crews battled in Atlanta and in Cobb County early Friday.

“There’s nothing showing any correlation between the fires in DeKalb and the fires in neighboring districts,” he said.

Authorities are concerned dry conditions could cause the fires to spread quickly, so anyone who sees anything suspicious in the area is urged to call police.
