Authorities on Wednesday confirmed the arrest of Endicott McCray, 24, the San Marcos man being sought by Austin police after a downtown shooting early Sunday that killed one woman and injured four others.

Austin police Assistant Chief Troy Gay said the suspect in the Sixth Street shooting was apprehended in Atlanta.

Law enforcement with the U.S. Marshals Southeast Fugitive Task Force found McCray Wednesday morning in the area of a bus and train station in east Atlanta. Agents had learned that he would be in the area and began surveillance.

They spotted a person who matched McCray’s description walking down a street while wearing a rain coat, an inspector with the task force said. He was detained by officers without incident and admitted who he was.

He was being held in the Fulton County Jail, the representative said.

McCray is wanted on a murder charge in connection with the death of Teqnika Marie Moultrie, 30, who was wounded by gunfire on Sixth Street. Police said McCray also shot four other people in an incident in which investigators say he was attempting to shoot his brother-in-law Chris McCutcheon, an arrest affidavit said.

The shooting happened around 2:15 a.m. near Sixth Street and Brazos, briefly triggering an “active shooter” response after another unrelated shooting was reported minutes later near the downtown bar district.

Court documents show Endicott’s last area address in San Marcos, though he also has ties to Pflugerville.
