They’re both young men, and they’re decked out in purple. They alternately grin and look warily — but not too warily — out the windows. One smokes some kind of cigar.

They’re joyriding in a Grady Memorial Hospital patient transport van — and Atlanta police hope releasing the crystal-clear dashcam footage that captured their exploits will lead to their arrest.

Sgt. Warren Pickard said the van was stolen Jan. 23 from the parking lot of the Family Dollar store at 3500 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. SW. The driver reportedly left his keys inside the vehicle — originally described by police as an ambulance — and was alerted to the theft by another customer.

The van was recovered “shortly after the theft,” Pickard said in an emailed statement, but the suspects were not apprehended.

Anyone with information on their identities is asked to contact Crime Stoppers Atlanta by calling 404-577-TIPS, visiting crimestoppersatlanta.org or texting "CSA" and the tip to 274637. Tipsters can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.
