Authorities are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrests of two people wanted in connection with a weekend assault and robbery of an Atlanta police recruit.

The reward was increased from the traditional $2,000 to $5,000 hours after police released sketches of the two suspects.

The recruit, whose name was not released, was choked after the duo broke into a southwest Atlanta home about 2 a.m. Sunday, according to Atlanta police. He was staying there while attending training at the department’s police academy.

“The recruit suffered minor injuries and was able to escape the home to call 911 from a nearby home,” police spokesman Carlos Campos said in a statement. “The suspects were able to flee the home with some of his property.”

It is believed the men accessed the home through a bathroom window. They were wearing long-sleeved shirts and black shorts at the time of the break-in, according to police.

Campos said there is no indication the recruit was targeted because he is an Atlanta Police Department employee, but the incident remains under investigation.

Anyone with information on the two suspects' identities is asked to come forward. Tipsters can remain anonymous, and be eligible for the reward, by contacting Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-8477, texting information to 274637 or visiting the Crime Stoppers website.
