An Atlanta police officer was shot Saturday afternoon at an apartment complex in Buckhead, police said. Both suspects are in custody, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The officer was alert, conscious and breathing, police spokeswoman Elizabeth Espy said. He was protected from serious injury by his vest. The shooting was on Peachtree Valley Road.

Police said someone called 911 about 3:30 p.m. to report someone trying to break into an apartment at the Allure at Brookwood complex, Channel 2 reported. One suspect was shot in the shoulder, and the other person ran into a wooded area nearby and was captured later.
