Atlanta man dies in shooting Monday night

Police are investigating a fatal shooting Monday night in southwest Atlanta.

A man identified by the Fulton County medical examiner’s office as Xavier Cummings, 24, of Atlanta, died after being shot in the 1000 block of Oakland Drive SW at about 9:15 p.m., and taken to Grady Hospital, Atlanta police spokesman Sgt. Greg Lyon said in an email to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“It appears a dispute of some kind escalated to gunfire,” Lyon said.
