An Atlanta man faces an aggravated assault charge after prompting a SWAT standoff in South Fulton on Wednesday, authorities said.

Matthew James Langford, 35, is accused of threatening to stab someone with a knife inside a home off White City Road, South Fulton police said in a Facebook post. The others in the home were able to get out safely.

As officers arrived, Langford barricaded himself in the house and refused to come out, the post said. Two police negotiators failed to get him to surrender.

Eventually, SWAT officers deployed tear gas into the house, with Langford surrendering shortly after, the post said. He was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at the scene before being booked into the Fulton County Jail.

As of Thursday afternoon, he remained in jail without bond, jail records show. AJC.com has reached out to the sheriff’s office to request his mug shot.

The crash involved a DeKalb County patrol car and another vehicle.
