An accused child pornographer who was awaiting trial has died after being found unresponsive in his Athens jail cell, officials said.
The GBI and the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the death of the 28-year-old man, the Athens Banner-Herald reported.
The man, whose identity is not being disclosed by AJC.com, was arrested May 11 and later indicted on charges he used a girl under 16 to create pornographic videos, according to records.

He pleaded not guilty July 16, the newspaper reported.
He was in a single-inmate cell, where deputies found him unresponsive about 12:11 p.m. Sunday. He died two days later at a hospital.
“There were no apparent signs of foul play and the cause of death is pending results of an autopsy at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s State Crime lab,” Clarke County sheriff’s Capt. Hayden Hodges said.
