Dunwoody police arrested seven people Friday and charged them with illegal solicitation.

Sgt. Curtis Clifton said on Facebook more than a dozen calls came into the Dunwoody Police Department about a group of people collecting money for armed services members in the Mount Vernon Road area.

The solicitors claimed to represent members of American armed forces and were collecting monetary donations to further their efforts.

“This sounds like a great organization that each of us would enjoy donating towards,” Sgt. Curtis Clifton wrote on Facebook. “Unfortunately, the solicitors picked the wrong city to attempt their scam. A Google search showed numerous reviews where the organization is identified as fraudulent.”
