Authorities have identified the two people they believe are behind a string of car break-ins in parts of metro Atlanta, northeast Georgia and South Carolina.
Athens-Clarke County police responded April 24 to a report of a break-in on Preserve Drive, according to a post on the agency’s Facebook page.
Cameron Sneed, 20, of Athens, was arrested on entering auto, loitering and prowling charges. Mason Dixon, 21, of Jackson County, escaped. Warrants were issued for his arrest and he remains at large.
“There is evidence that the two suspects have been breaking into vehicles across Georgia (and at least one in South Carolina) over the last month,” police spokesman Epifanio Rodriguez said. “The entering autos appear to have occurred primarily in Athens and the Cherokee County/Kennesaw areas.”
Authorities have recovered driver’s licenses and student identification cards that belonged to at least 20 different people, credit and debit cards, pill bottles and four guns.
One of the two stolen guns was traced to Cherokee County, police said.
