Since Monday night, when someone hit and killed a 16-year-old girl without stopping, Henry County police have been looking for the car and the driver.
Thursday, authorities said they found both of them.
Robert Huynh, 19, was arrested at his McDonough home about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in connection with the hit-and-run death of Tasia Marie Gartner, Henry police Capt. Mike Ireland said.
Gartner and a friend were walking along Ga. 81 near McDonough, police said.
Her friend crossed the highway successfully, but Gartner was struck by a 2007 Honda Fit in the westbound lane when she attempted to cross, Ireland said.
Huynh, who was behind the wheel of the Honda, kept going, police said.
Gartner’s body landed on the north shoulder of the road. She was pronounced dead about 10:30 p.m.
Authorities on Thursday found the Honda at a body shop in Duluth. Photos of the car showed a cracked windshield and heavy front-end damage to the hood.
Huynh had his first court appearance Thursday night, according to Channel 2 Action News.
He is being held in the county jail on charges of hit-and-run resulting in serious injury or death, failure to report an accident and homicide by vehicle in the first degree in lieu of $50,000 bond.
His next hearing is scheduled for 2 p.m. Aug. 2, Channel 2 reported.
