Dunwoody’s slogan is “smart people, smart city.” The concept does not, however, seem to extend to criminals.

For the second time in a matter of months, Dunwoody police have arrested an alleged shoplifter attempting to make a “high-speed getaway” on a motorized cart. The most recent incident came Saturday.

"Walmart Shoplifter Stopped in his tracks as he SLOOOOOOWLY inched out of the store," the department posted on Facebook, along with a photo of man sitting on the cart while surrounded by officers. "This subject said he was just released from jail this morning."

No further details were immediately available. The man was not identified.

His arrest comes less than three months after Dunwoody police arrested another alleged shoplifter attempting to make a motorized escape.

In that April incident, another unidentified suspect attempted to flee in a motorized cart at the Wal-Mart in the 4700 block of Ashford Dunwoody Road, according to the Dunwoody police Facebook page.

The man was arrested on a shoplifting charge.
