A man was taken to the hospital in serious condition after he was shot in the head in southwest Atlanta on Monday morning, police said.

The alleged shooter stayed at the scene in the 1500 block of Langston Avenue and has been detained, Atlanta police spokesman Officer Jarius Daugherty said in a statement.

A preliminary investigation suggests the victim and shooter know each other, Daugherty said.

The victim was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.

The shooting remains under investigation.
