It started with a driver who was determined not to let another driver in front of him on I-75, according to police. So determined, that he allegedly maneuvered his car repeatedly to avoid letting the SUV change lanes.
That led to two angry drivers heading northbound in Cobb County shortly after 7:10 a.m. Tuesday. A school bus headed to Powers Ferry Elementary School got caught up in the road rage just before South Marietta Parkway, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
“Each driver continued their aggressive driving behavior alongside the school bus,” GSP said in an emailed statement Tuesday afternoon. “At one point, the vehicles made contact with one another while side-by-side in the same lane.”
After the Toyota Camry and Nissan Pathfinder collided, the Pathfinder’s driver lost control of the vehicle and hit the bus, carrying 55 students, the State Patrol said.
One student was taken to the hospital with minor injuries after the crash, the Cobb schools spokeswoman said. Ten other students were checked out by the school nurse. Two people in the Pathfinder were taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The drivers were identified Tuesday afternoon as Stacy Fisher, 44, of Albany, who was driving the Pathfinder, and Michael Cagle, 57, of Canton, who was driving the Camry. Both drivers were cited for aggressive driving and reckless driving, according to the GSP.
