Henry County police have charged two people with defrauding 17 victims across the United States out of more than $100,000.
Ronzlex Harris, 40, of Stockbridge, and Kaya Edwards, 39, of Atlanta, are each facing 40-plus charges that include identity fraud, forgery, exploitation of the elderly and theft by receiving, police Capt. Mike Ireland said.
Harris and Edwards are at large.
When authorities went to a house Thursday on Haven Ridge Drive in Stockbridge to serve warrants, they ended up arresting a man on an unrelated matter, Channel 2 Action News reported.
The man who answered the door, Mark Fuller, was not supposed to be near the house because of his former girlfriend’s restraining order, the station reported.
Fuller ran from the house and almost hit a deputy after he jumped into a car, Channel 2 reported. He was later taken into custody.
Red Oak Elementary nearby was briefly placed on lockdown because of the incident.
Harris and Edwards rented houses in the victims’ names using fake pay stubs and other fraudulent documents, police said. The suspects would then obtain utilities in the same names or other victims’ names.
They also used stolen checks to pay fraudulently opened water bills and to make a down payment on a vehicle, according to police.
A July 2016 search of the suspects’ residence found multiple pieces of information pertaining to all of the victims, Ireland said.
Police don’t know how the suspects obtained the personal information of the victims.
