Investigators are trying to determine what started fires at homes in DeKalb and Hall counties early Friday.

The DeKalb fire started just after 5 a.m. in the rear of a home in the 400 block of Candler Lake West and spread to the garage, fire battalion chief Al Hogan said.

While the residents escaped without injury, the fire caused damage to the garage and minor smoke damage to the home, he said.

Firefighters were able to put the blaze out in less than 20 minutes, DeKalb fire Capt. Eric Jackson said.

Hall firefighters received a call at 4:10 a.m. about a fire at a 5,000-square-foot, two-story home in the Harbor Point subdivision, fire Capt. Zachary Brackett said.

When crews got to the scene in the 3800 block of Silver Brook Lane, they found heavy flames in the attic.
