Comcast launches Internet Essentials

Comcast recently kicked off its second year of the Internet Essentials Program in Atlanta by announcing a $60,000 Club Tech Grant to Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta and donating $25,000 to fund the 2012-2013 Digital Connectors program at Warren/Holyfield Boys & Girls Club.

Comcast has also partnered with the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce to increase digital literacy. The Internet Essentials Program aims to ensure more Americans benefit from the internet. Kenneth Musisi

Marietta and Cobb plan annual job expo

The 10th Marietta/Cobb Career Expo will offer career and educational help 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Cobb County Civic Center, 548 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta. Some 30 employers and three universities are on the schedule. The event is sponsored by Cobb County, Marietta, CobbWorks, Inc, Cobb/Cherokee Career Center and the Georgia Department of Labor. Cooking class geared to healthy eating

Gwinnett Cooperative Extension Service will demonstrate delicious meals and snacks that could help lower your risk of developing cancer 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Gwinnett Village, 5855 Jimmy Carter Boulevard, Suite 122, Norcross. Class will include how to prepare food with less fat, sodium, and sugar, but add more fiber.

Cherokee Sheriff seeks citizen feedback

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office invites citizens to take a survey regarding law enforcement within the community that will be used to help improve the agency’s operations.

To maintain its national accreditation, the Sheriff’s Office is required to survey citizens every three years. The survey will be available until Nov. 18. Emerging Leaders accepting applications

The Emerging Leaders Program, within the Great North Fulton Chamber of Commerce, is accepting applications from juniors that live or attend any high school within North Fulton County.

The ELP program involves three class days which combine leadership training, a commitment to 15 community service hours and speakers from the community. Cost is $100 per student. Applications, due by Sept. 14, are available at www.leadershipnorthfulton.org.

Emory University will host its quarterly community meeting for nearby residents 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the North Decatur Building.
