Two teenagers were hospitalized and a third arrested after the three allegedly tried to burglarize a Lithonia-area home Monday afternoon, DeKalb County police said. A resident fired multiple shots, striking two of the suspects.

The teens, two 15-year-olds boys and a 14-year-old boy, were in a stolen car when they pulled into the driveway of a Donna Way home shortly before 4 p.m., according to Mekka Parish, spokeswoman for DeKalb police. Two of the teens, whose names were not released, rang the doorbell of the home, but didn’t wait for the resident to open the front door, Parish said.

“Those two teens forced themselves inside the house through the rear door,” Parish told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

A resident of the home had a gun and fired multiple shots, striking both boys, Parish said. The two teens ran about a block to Wendy Way, where officers were called. The 15-year-old boy who had remained in the car was taken into custody and the injured teens were transported to the hospital, where they were in stable condition late Monday afternoon, Parish said.

The three teenagers are expected to face charges for the incident, according to police. The man who fired the shots is not expected to be charged, police said.

The incident remains under investigation.
