A Paulding County man is accused of hiring a woman online for a bartending job and then assaulting her. And it may not have been the first time he’s done it, according to police.

Christopher Michael Smith, 37, of Dallas, was arrested Wednesday and charged with rape, kidnapping, aggravated assault, aggravated sexual battery, aggravated sodomy, false imprisonment and possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, according to Paulding County jail records. Smith was being held Thursday without bond.

The woman had used the online site Craigslist to post an ad offering her services as a bartender, according to Cpl. Ashley Henson with the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office.

Smith claimed he wanted to hire the woman to work at a party at his home Monday evening, Henson said. Smith allegedly picked the victim up at an undisclosed location and took her to his Mount Tabor Road home, where he assaulted her, according to police.

“Once the incident was over, the victim was then taken back to her vehicle and instructed not to call law enforcement officials or else,” Henson said in an emailed statement.

Deputies believe it is possible that Smith has assaulted other women. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division at 770-443-3015.
