Atlanta police have arrested a man for striking a motorist in the head with a rock Wednesday afternoon as the motorist drove near the Lindbergh MARTA station.

Police said Robbie Robinson, 36, first acknowledged and then denied throwing the rock. They charged Robinson with simply battery in the incident, which occurred about 2 p.m. Wednesday in Buckhead, Officer John Chafee said.

The victim, whose name was not released, told police he was driving northbound on Piedmont Road, near the intersection with Garson Road, when he was struck in the head by a rock, Chafee said.

The driver pulled over and called 911, which dispatched both Atlanta and MARTA officers to the scene because of the proximity to the MARTA station.

The driver was able to find the rock inside of his car, Chafee said. The victim was treated at the scene for a laceration to the head, police said.

Robinson was transported to the Fulton County jail, where he was being booked late Wednesday afternoon.
