Police arrested a female student at Maynard Jackson High School on Monday after she reportedly stabbed a male schoolmate.

Atlanta police spokesman Officer Ralph Woolfolk said preliminary information indicated that an 18-year-old male student was stabbed in the shoulder at the school, which is located at 801 Glenwood Avenue. The victim was taken to the hospital and was “alert, breathing and conscious,” Woolfolk said.

An 18-year-old female student was arrested and charged with aggravated assault in connection with the stabbing, Woolfolk said. As of early Monday evening, her identity had not been released.

Online call records indicate that police were alerted to the situation at about 2:30 p.m. Monday. According to the Atlanta Public Schools website, high schools in the system dismiss each day at 3:30 p.m.

A schools spokesperson did not immediately respond to inquiries.
