A Cartersville couple was taken into custody Friday, charged with prescription drug fraud and identity theft.

Stephen Curtis Chapman and Sarah Crowe Chapman were arrested on Waterford Drive, Cartersville police said. Each faces multiple charges, including fraudulently obtaining dangerous drugs, identity fraud and distribution of drugs illegally.

They were taken to the Bartow County jail.

The case stems from a police report filed in July by Floyd Urgent Care on Joe Frank Harris Parkway in Cartersville. The urgent care facility accused a former employee of obtaining prescription “scripts” and forging doctors’ names on them to obtain medication. The alleged fraud dated back to December 2011, according to the police report.

The former employee, who was not identified at the time, was able to fill 20 prescriptions, police said.

According to the Rome-News Tribune, both Chapmans worked for Floyd Urgent Care before Stephen Chapman was fired after allegedly stealing prescription pads. His wife was placed on administrative leave while the case was investigated. Illegal prescriptions forged by her were filled by him at various pharmacies, the newspaper reported, citing local authorities.

Steven Chapman faces a total of 24 warrants and Sarah Chapman faces 15 warrants.
