A boy sprang into action Monday when he saw his mother’s ex-boyfriend assaulting her in their Atlanta home, according to police.

Atlanta police investigators said the child grabbed a weapon and stabbed 27-year-old Aaron Brinson in order to stop the assault.

Officers were sent to the home in the 3000 block of Middleton Road about 3:15 a.m., the police department said in a statement. When they arrived, the mother told them Brinson had attacked her.

“While doing so, her juvenile son stabbed the male so he would stop the assault,” police said.

Brinson was treated for a cut on his shoulder and then placed in police custody.
