A code Orange air quality alert was issued Saturday.

Severe Weather Team 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said those with respiratory issues should avoid prolonged activities outside.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources added that active children and adults, and people with lung disease, such as asthma, should reduce prolonged or heavy exertion outdoors.

An air quality alert is issued when ground-level ozone levels are expected to reach values of 101 to 150 on a 500-point scale called the Air Quality Index.
