With the retirement of Cobb Police K9 Diesel, the Northeast Cobb Business Association has presented the Cobb K9 team with a $15,000 check.

The money came from their NCBA 5K9 held in June and will be used to purchase another police K9.

Cobb's K9 Unit consists of multiple canine and handler teams who respond to requests for assistance from the precincts and other units.

The dogs specialize in narcotics and explosives detection and assist with tracking suspects.

Another funding source may come on Aug. 8 as the Rotary Club of East Cobb holds its 10th annual Dog Days 5K Run to benefit Cobb charities.

All in the family are welcome to run, jog or walk the 5K/1 Mile/Tot Trot, starting at 6:30 a.m. Saturday at McCleskey-East Cobb YMCA, 1055 East Piedmont Road, Marietta.

The registration fee is $30.

Following the 6:30 a.m. registration, the 5K starts at 7:30 a.m., the 1 Mile at 7:45 a.m. and the Tot Trot at 8 a.m.

The event also will include music, food, prizes and giveaways.

Proceeds will benefit projects such as School Mates Literacy Project, Canine Assistance and Cobb County Public Safety.
