A Cobb County elementary school paraprofessional is in trouble after allegedly slapping an autistic pre-kindergartner.

Between 12:15 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. Feb. 25, a 5-year-old student at Smyrna’s Norton Park Elementary School spit on Karen D. Bean’s face, according to an arrest warrant obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Bean’s alleged “reaction to being spit on was to immediately strike the juvenile with an open right-handed slap to the left side of the juvenile’s face,” authorities wrote in the warrant.

The slap left a visible red mark on the student’s cheek and extended toward his ear, according to the warrant.

Bean was arrested Monday on a misdemeanor battery charge. She was released from the Cobb County Adult Detention Center on $2,970 bond, online jail records show.
