A Cobb County high school student died Friday morning after collapsing in one of his classes.

Lassiter High School senior Arjun Chopra died shortly after emergency personnel took him to a nearby hospital. According to Channel 2 Action News, he was known to have a congenital heart condition.

“From what we understand, he was giving a presentation for one of the finals in his classes, finished up the presentation, went back to his desk and then very shortly afterward collapsed on his desk,” Kyler Post, a Cobb Schools spokesman, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Lassiter Principal Chris Richie in a letter posted on the high school’s website called Chopra “a valued member of the Lassiter community.

“Arjun will be remembered as a generous young man always willing to share his knowledge with others,” Richie wrote. “Arjun was a dedicated student and positioned himself well for a bright future after graduation.

“On behalf of all members of the Lassiter staff, our deepest condolences are with the Chopra family and friends during this difficult time.”

Friday was the last day of classes at Lassiter this calendar year as Cobb County Schools begins its winter break. Though students will not report back to school until Jan. 6, Richie’s letter said counselors would be available over the break to students needing support.

Chopra’s funeral arrangements have not been set, school officials said.
