Finch Elementary School teachers and students moved to a middle school Tuesday, a day after dozens were sickened by carbon monoxide poisoning.

Atlanta Public Schools announced late Monday that Finch Elementary will operate at Kennedy Middle School, located at 225 James P. Brawley Drive.

Buses arrived at Finch around 7:30 a.m. to transport students to the middle school Tuesday morning.

After school, students who normally ride the bus home will be transported by school bus to their assigned bus stop, said Stephen Alford, district spokesman. Students who walk home or are driven to school by their parents will be transported by bus from Kennedy back to Finch after 2:30 p.m. dismissal.

More than 40 children and adults were transported to medical centers Monday after being overcome by carbon monoxide fumes, apparently coming from the school’s heating system. All were treated and released.

It’s unlikely that the students will suffer any permanent injury from the exposure, Dr. Sharon Bergquist, a doctor of internal medicine and primary care at Emory University School of Medicine, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
