The Atlanta City Council finance committee is considering legislation today that would provide business incentives for NCR Corp. to relocate its headquarters from Gwinnett County to Atlanta.

According to the legislation sponsored by Councilman Kwanza Hall, the city would direct around $3 million to Invest Atlanta to grant an economic opportunity fund to a company referred to as “Project Towers.”

Hall confirmed on Wednesday that “Project Towers” is NCR Corp.

NCR announced Tuesday it is moving its corporate headquarters to Midtown, ending months of speculation that it was leaving Gwinnett County for more fertile ground near Georgia Tech. The move would shift 3,600 workers to the city of Atlanta. Invest Atlanta executive Eloisa Klementich said to the finance committee that the project would involve a $260 million investment by NCR.

“In 2009, we decided to make Georgia our home and it was a great decision,” Marija Zivanovic-Smith, vice president of global government programs at NCR, said in a briefing to council members. “This week’s announcement is a vote of confidence in Atlanta and another vote confidence in the state of Georgia.”

She said the move was announced to tap into Atlanta’s tech talent. A second planned suburban campus is also planned.

“This is the largest relocation of jobs in Atlanta’s recent history and puts Midtown Atlanta squarely in the center of the payment processing universe,” Hall said on Wednesday.

The new campus will be on Spring Street at Centergy North at Technology Square, which had rumored to be the lure for the company because of its tech savvy-population. The move would happen sometime late in 2017 or early in 2018.
