Gusty winds and noticeably cooler air moved into metro Atlanta on Saturday and were harbingers of the nippy weather in store for North Georgia next week.

Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said a cold front was making its way through the region and chilly temperatures and partly cloudy skies were expected by Sunday morning.

“We’re headed down to morning lows in the mid to upper 40s, with upper 40s in town,” Nitz said. “Through the day [Sunday] temperatures struggle even to make it into the low 60s, with a gusty northwest wind.”

While much of the Eastern seaboard's eyes are on Hurricane Sandy, Nitz said the hurricane continues to move away from Georgia as it heads up the Atlantic.

Metro Atlanta’s weather will be even breezier and colder into next week with highs dropping into the upper 50s and nighttime lows in the mid to upper 30s.

“On Monday and Tuesday, expect stronger winds with gusts of 30 to 35 miles per hour possible, and that blows in some really cold air,” Nitz said.
