A 36-year-old Hiram woman died in a fiery, multi-vehicle wreck Monday afternoon in Cobb County, police said Thursday.

Katrina M. Cook died at the scene of the wreck, which involved several vehicles, Cobb County police said.

Just after 3:30 p.m., 26-year-old Danielle Garcia of Douglasville was driving a red 1998 Mazda B4000 pickup truck southbound in the left lane of C.H. James Parkway, Cobb police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce said in an emailed statement early Tuesday.

Bobby Banks, 61, of Powder Springs, was in front of Garcia in a red Toyota Tundra truck. As Garcia began to change lanes to pass the Toyota, the left front of the Mazda collided with the right rear of the Toyota and and Banks lost control of the vehicle, Pierce said.

His Toyota traveled through the center turn lane and collided head on with a white 2005 Infiniti G35 that was northbound on C.H. James Parkway, Pierce said.

“After being struck by the Toyota, the Infiniti entered the path of a white 2012 Freightliner tractor-trailer which was also traveling north on C.H. James Parkway,” he said. “The Infiniti caught fire after it was struck in the rear by the Freightliner tractor-trailer.”

Cook, the driver of the Infiniti, died at the scene, Pierce said. The driver of the tractor-trailer, 28-year-old Alhassane Dansoko of Decatur, did not require medical treatment. Garcia also did not require treatment. Banks was taken to Atlanta Medical Center with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Pierce said charges are expected to be filed at the conclusion of the investigation.
