The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating a deputy-involved shooting in Carroll County.

Just after 5 a.m. Friday, a Carroll sheriff’s deputy responded to a 911 call about a man with an ax on Levans Road in Temple, according to Channel 2 Action News.

The unidentified man ran to the back of the home when the deputy ordered him to drop the ax and the deputy followed, the television station reported. As the deputy went around the corner of the house, the man approached him, swinging the ax.

The deputy shot the man in the chest, according to Channel 2. He was flown to an Atlanta hospital.

The deputy was placed on administrative leave, Channel 2 reported.
