DHL Supply Chain plans to close a facility in Union City with more than 600 employees, according to a layoff notice filed by the company with the state of Georgia.

According to the notice filed with the state, the cuts at the facility on Derrick Industrial Parkway west of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport will take effect starting April 6.

Additional phases of the cuts are planned through August as the company phases down operations.

DHL Supply Chain said the reason for the closure of the facility is that the customer the warehouse serves decided “that they will be reallocating their distribution resources.” DHL said it could not disclose customer details.

Employees affected include fulfillment workers, maintenance technicians, drivers, administrative employees, managers, analysts and others, according to the filing.

Employers must file Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act notices ahead of major plant closings and layoffs.

DHL has notified its associates and is working closely with impacted team members to identify opportunities to continue their careers as valued members of DHL Supply Chain,” the company said in a written statement.

DHL Supply Chain operates more than 20 distribution centers on behalf of customers in metro Atlanta, including other operations in Union City not included in the filing.

In its notice, DHL asked for state Department of Labor representatives to visit to provide guidance for job placement, resume writing and filing unemployment claims.

“We have other DHL Supply Chain locations, and we are actively pursuing internal placement opportunities for as many as possible,” the company said in the filing.
