Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines said after “a comprehensive security review, conducted in close coordination with government and private-sector partners” it will resume its daily route from New York to Tel Aviv, Israel, this spring.

All major American carriers suspended their service to Israel in October 2023 following Hamas' attack. Delta resumed flights temporarily last summer, but after tensions worsened the carrier pulled back again.

Delta now plans to resume flights from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport to Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport starting April 1.

Israeli-owned El Al has been the only airline offering nonstop service from Tel Aviv to North America, which has driven up fares more than 100%, the Times of Israel reported.

Delta started a marketing partnership with El Al last year to allow Delta customers to book flights on El Al to Tel Aviv.

United Airlines has not yet announced the return of its nonstop flights to Israel, while American Airlines has said it would not do so until the fall of 2025.

Dov Wilker, Atlanta’s regional director of the American Jewish Committee, said the announcement will have a positive impact on U.S.-Israel business relationships.

“The last 15 months have been difficult for travelers to get to Israel, and the return of these flights will alleviate some of the challenges that have been faced.”
