Gwinnett County police shut down Buford Highway in both directions for nearly three hours after a deadly wreck Monday morning.

Officers at the scene confirmed at least one person was killed in the multivehicle crash, which appeared to involve an SUV and a commercial work van. Both directions of the five-lane highway were closed at Langford Road near Norcross until investigators cleared the scene at 11:15 a.m.

The road had been closed since at least 8:40 a.m., according to police.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031.
