When Mark Nilson realized his 5-year-old daughter’s bus couldn’t bring her home and she would have to spend the night at E. Rivers Elementary School in Buckhead, he sprang into action.
Nilson laced up his boots about 7 p.m. Tuesday and started walking. He walked six miles to the elementary school to be with his daughter, arriving about 10 p.m., passing many stranded motorists along the way.
“I passed a lot of the buses on my way here,” Nilson said. “I saw a lot of cars spinning out, and a lot of buses spinning out.”
Nilson said his daughter was glad to see him, but she wanted to go home.
“I think she was happy once we settled in for the night,” he said. “I can say this was probably the latest she’s ever stayed up.”
