One person has died and 13 were injured after a suspect fired from a vehicle in eight separate incidents in and around Surprise, Arizona, on Thursday, according to reporter Matt Galka.

The shooting spree lasted about 1 ½ hours, Galka reported.

The other injuries are considered non-life threatening, according to multiple reports.

“We don’t know the nexus, we don’t know what the motive was, we don’t have an idea of what this person was thinking when he went out and did this,” Peoria police spokesman Brandon Sheffert said at a news conference. “Obviously we want to figure this out because there’s a lot of scared people and people this affected.”

Police departments in Peoria, Surprise and Glendale were investigating the shootings in their cities, along with the Arizona Department of Public Safety and the FBI.

Nine people were hospitalized in three different locations after shootings Thursday in several West Valley cities, according to news outlet KTVK 3TV.

Two victims were taken to Banner Boswell, three were taken to Banner Thunderbird and four were taken to Banner Del Webb, KTVK reported, citing a spokesperson for Banner Health hospitals.

The spokesperson told KTVK that all Banner Health West Valley facilities were placed on a temporary lockdown as a result of the area shootings, but it has since been lifted.

Two victims are in stable condition after being shot in Surprise, according to reporter Elliott Polakoff.

A suspect has been arrested after shooting at vehicles, according to the Peoria Police Department.

The suspect was taken into custody without shots fired, according to reporter Zach Crenshaw. Officers have recovered at least one gun, Crenshaw said.

The suspect was quickly located and taken into custody by the Surprise Police Department, according to Peoria Police officials.

Multiple agencies are investigating “several shootings” after the suspect was taken into custody near North 115th Avenue and Bell Road in Surprise.
