A 7-year-old boy is recovering after a hit-and-run last week in southwest Atlanta.

The crash happened shortly after 8 p.m. July 8 in the area of Bridgewater and Brandywine streets, according to an Atlanta police report.

A man was driving the moped toward the intersection, the police report said. The boy, identified by Atlanta police as Christian Dixon, was on the back of it.

When the pair approached a stop sign, a white van that was making a left turn hit the moped, the police report said.

The impact threw both the boy and the man from the moped and into the street, according to police. The man was left with a large laceration on one shoulder and an abrasion on the other. Christian suffered a head injury, lacerations and bruises.

Police said the driver of the white van left the scene after the wreck. Investigators are still trying to track the driver down.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Atlanta police.

GoFundMe has been created to raise money for Christian's medical bills.
