A second fatal collision Sunday, this one in Roswell, brought metro Atlanta’s roadway death count to three for the day.

Only one car was involved in this second incident, on Holcomb Bridge Road. A woman identified as Valerie Cooper, 25, of Roswell was driving when she struck a telephone pole, Roswell Officer Lisa Holland said.

Cooper was ejected from the vehicle. Despite the location on a busy stretch of road near a Georgia 400 exit ramp, investigators had no witnesses as of late Sunday afternoon and did not know what caused the wreck.

The crash at around 11:30 a.m. came six hours after a two-vehicle crash in Gwinnett County left two people dead, police there said.

The crash in Roswell happened near the intersection with Old Dogwood Road. A couple lanes of Holcomb Bridge Road were closed as investigators arrived.

It was unclear whether wet roads — rain was falling across metro Atlanta — played a role in either incident.
